Brett was born in Vermont, but grew up in Oklahoma. He obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Liberty University in 2013, gaining research experience through an NSF REU at the University of North Texas. He then obtained his Ph.D. from Duke University in 2018 working with Dr. Qiu Wang on copper-catalyzed amino oxygenation of olefins using electrophilic nitrogen species. Brett joined the Denmark group in 2019 as a post-doctoral researcher to gain additional experience in asymmetric reaction design and mechanistic inquiry. Outside of the lab, he enjoys spending time with his wife, watching football and baseball, playing soccer, and listening to music.
